Glenn Amador: Hard Work Led to Fulfillment of His Dreams

Aug 22, 2009

Looking for another employment opportunity became difficult for Glenn Amador of Lapu-Lapu city when he lost his job in 1999 as a Load Dispatch Engineer in a Power Plant located at MEPZ1 Lapu-lapu City. The need to look for another means of livelihood made him set his eyes to working abroad. To get an overseas job, he registered at WorkAbroad.ph, an overseas job site.

After posting his resume, only one week passed when he received an e-mail from an agency scheduling him for an interview. Fortunately, he was qualified and got hired. His first overseas job was in Saudi Arabia and this is where he experienced the reality that working abroad is indeed not a bed of roses.

He had to live and share a room with eight persons so he barely had enough space for his personal belongings. The shelter that the company provided is even located in a very old and filthy building. Also, he did not receive any salary for six months. These were trying times for him because his wife in the Philippines was pregnant with their first child. He almost decided to go home then, but because he had no money in his pocket and knew that there is no job waiting in the Philippines, he just persevered and concentrated in his work.

Six months passed before he is able to receive his full salary. After finishing his contract in Saudi Arabia, he again applied for an overseas job and this time he was assigned in Kuwait to work as Mechanical Piping Supervisor.

Glenn is luckier in his second stint abroad. He now lives in a decent and fully furnished house with one bedroom and one bathroom for each person. His present salary of USD 3400 a month excluding overtime is four times bigger than what he previously earns in Saudi Arabia.

In this job, Glenn was selected by his company to handle the most complex part of the Aromatics Project. His work performance in the project was excellent so his boss offered him a permanent position in the company.

Now, Glenn doesn’t have to worry about the time when his work contract will end. Little by little, Glenn can say that he is starting to fulfill his dreams for his family-- to give them a better life. With his overseas job, he had already bought a property and the new house for his family is soon to be finished. He is also able to send his children to a good school.

Glenn’s message to all OFWs around the world? Trust in God.

Masasabi ko lang nasa company na napasukan mo, kung maliiit lang, e di mas maliit din offer, if utilities, oil and gas, mas malaki. i worked as an intrument engineer sa oman and now scada engineer in uae. For your info. - Rogie Santiago

 Marcel,
Ikaw, USD8000? Wow!
Let's face it! Dahil sa kahirapan sa Pilipinas, we are stuck working abroad.
Haay naku. - Dingdong Gomez

I believed that we have always a choice in life and whatever choice we make it will molds our destiny. By the help and grace of God we will be able to fulfill our dreams. I'm so happy that Mr. Glenn Amador suceed in his career despite of many trials and challenges that he experienced. For me trials and challenges was vital in molding our character specially if you are working in abroad and you are on your way towards fulfilling your dreams I will quote sciptures from the bible that says" When theres a great opportunity theres always a great opposition". And for us Filipino's we will do whatever it takes just to provide a better future for our family. I saw a lot of our kababyan's here in UAE and I personally salute them. And for those Filipino's in the country who says negative comments about filipinos working abroad. I'm so proud being expat working here in abroad who use to experienced a lot of challenges in fulfilling my dreams. Because I believed that after the night there will be morning, problems are only temporary and by the help and grace of the almighty GOD i will be able to fulfill my dreams...have a nice day to all our kababayan's abroad! - Leonard03

 Glen,
Keep up the good work.

Sa sipag at tiyaga may aanihin maganda. - Marcel

This is for the information of Mr. Dingdong Gomez, US3400 is not too high a salary for Engineers...I'm working in a Consulting firm as HR and lots of our kabayan are receiving double and triple that amount... ! - Elm

DO!

But it seems like hindi maganda ang comments ng iba.

God Bless - Glenn Amador

- Neng

 this is ridiculous!
i found the story exaggerated! USD 3400 is far too high for a salary in the Middle East.
FAIRY TALE! - Dingdong Gomez

 Tagalog are crazy people...
They are a bunch of stupid people that is why they are branded as TANGALOG.
They are the problem of the Philippines.
No Tagalogs, No problem. - Joey

I believe that GOD is with us! I know that GOD is good!
As what with Glenns past experienced is what his step to get through to do him best and not with him but more! Now he achieved, good luck! Thanks to GOD....Theres a saying says...
" In everything you do put GOD first in heart and HE will direct you and crown your efforth with success." - Kenneth Galinato Ompoc
