A hotline for Filipino workers and migrants in United Kingdom (UK) and Ireland that wants to relay their concerns/ information abut the A/H1N1 (swine flu) virus was set up the Philippine Embassy in the said European countries.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), this is in addition to the advice of the Philippine Embassy in UK and Ireland that all Filipinos in their respective areas should take preventive measures to protect themselves against the A/H1N1 virus.

The DFA said, "Filipinos who have concerns on A/H1N1 may call the Embassy hotline at 07802790695."

Citing data from the World Health Organization, the DFA said that as of May 3, fifteen cases of the swine flu virus in UK and one case in Ireland was reported. The numbers of Filipinos working and living in UK are estimated at 200,000 while there are 12,000 Filipinos in Ireland.

Meanwhile the Philippine Honorary Consulates was ordered by the Philippine Embassy to be vigilant on suspected and confirmed Filipino nationals of having swine flu in their areas of jurisdiction.

This advisory of the Philippine Embassy in UK along with other reminders issued by the UK Government was spread to all Filipinos there with the help of the Philippine Nurses Association of UK, the largest organization of Filipino nurses in UK.
