It should be lifted because there are job opportunities for OFWs there.
The ban is necessary for the protection of OFWs.

Skilled Workers Are In-Demand in Equatorial Guinea

Aug 4, 2009

Equatorial Guinea, an oil rich country in West Africa is another viable destination for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). Harry Relator of Benzor International Manpower Services, informed WorkAbroad.ph through a phone interview that skilled OFWs particularly in the field of oil and construction are currently in-demand in Equatorial Guinea.

Another staff of Benzor, Jen Argawanon said that currently the recruitment agency has 16 POEA-approved job orders for various positions such as cooks, riggers, mechanics, carpenters, welders, architects and engineers.  Qualifications, salary as well as the placement fee for the above job opportunities are based on the specifications of the foreign employer.

Filipino workers started going to this tiny West African state for employment around 1998 and from the initial 40 deployed applicants, numbers of OFWs in Equatorial Guinea steadily increase registering 1780 documented OFWs in 2007. This represents a 43.1% growth rate. Presently there are approximately 2500 OFWs employed in the banking, finance and oil industry of Equatorial Guinea.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo visited Equatorial Guinea for an official state visit in 2007 and she said in a speech that OFWs there epitomize the excellence of Filipinos as global workers. She also praised OFWs for their significant contribution in the development of the West African country.
