OWWA To Create Hospitals For OFWs

Sep 11, 2009

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) announced last September 02 that they are now taking steps for the creation of hospitals and hospital wings that aims to give medical assistance for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their dependents.

Chief Carmelita Dimzon of OWWA said that they are currently in talks with the Philippine General Hospital in Manila for the possible building of a hospital wing dedicated only for OFWs and their dependents before the year ends.

Dimzon added that after building hospitals in National Capital Region, OWWA will eventually build in other provinces particularly in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

The said project is not yet finalized though OFWs can be assured that it will be established anytime soon.

The hospital project of OWWA is not the only proposal being processed, Rep. Diosdado “Dato” Arroyo of Camarines Sur have filed the House Bill 6297 which aims to create a hospital dedicated also for OFWs called Migrant Workers Hospital.

Two senate bills regarding the creation of migrant hospitals are also passed in the senate. Senator Jinggoy Estrada’s Senate bill no. 421 and Sen. Lito Lapid’s senate bill 1867 both seek the creation of Migrant Workers Hospital that aims to give total and comprehensive medical support for OFWs.
