Filipino workers have no reason to fear after news spread that the British immigration authorities targets Filipinos for arrest and detention, says Philippine embassy in London.
The embassy told the Department of Foreign Affairs Filipino workers in UK are “generally law-abiding” and is not affected by the anti-illegal immigrants drive in UK.
The embassy said that the campaign targets nationals without right work permits or documentations from eastern European countries outside of the European Union, and illegal alien from Saharan and sub-Saharan Africa.
The embassy says that since 2007, they have proposed to conduct regular and official consultations on immigration concerns to the UK Home Office.
On the other hand, Migrante International said last May 4 that the government needs to act with the dispatch of the allegedly increasing cases of undocumented workers being arrested, treated inhuman and being deported.
‘’We call upon the Philippine government and its satellite consulate here to address the needs of its people abroad and play a part in the lobbying efforts for regularization,’’ Migrante-UK secretary-general Jamima Fagta said.
About 200,000 OFWs and is expected to increase more as the country became one of the destination of Filipino medical practitioners such as nurses, caregiver, doctors and medical technicians.
