POEA Lists The Most In Demand Overseas Jobs In 2009

Jan 13, 2010

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) identified the top occupations and skills of the world labor market for the year 2009. According to the government agency, the following occupations are in-demand abroad: household service workers, nurses, production and related workers, caregivers, wiremen, electrical and related workers, welders, flame cutters and related workers, charworkers, cleaners and related workers, cooks and related workers, laborers, general workers and plumbers, pipefitters and related workers and seafarers.

The report also showed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), the consistent top destination of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) is also the country with the highest demand for Filipino nurses in 2009. This list of nurse’s destinations is followed by United Arab Emirates (UAE), Singapore, Kuwait and the United Kingdom (UK).

For the last five years, the following countries are also included in the list: USA, Qatar, Taiwan, Ireland and Trinidad and Tobago. However, the current visa retrogression policy of US immigration has the limited the number of available slots for Filipino nurses in America.

Demand for production workers are still highest in Taiwan despite being hit by the global financial crisis last year that slightly lowered the need for workers in the

semi-conductor, metal and electronics industry. There is also a need for production staff in Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, South Korea, Canada, Malaysia and Brunei.

For 2009, the top destinations for caretakers and caregivers are Taiwan, UK and Israel. However it is expected that the hiring of caregivers for Israel may slow down this year because of the ongoing legalization program.

 hello all:)

i was an OFW from May 2001 till Feb 2004 in KSA and after my contract finished, i applied again but i was denied all the times by GAMCA since i have a scar in my lungs.

is their such a way i can apply again for any jobs in the gulf?

i always qualified beforehand when the agency, as well, the employer see my resume. then i also passed their interviewed when they asked me.

however, its in the processing of medical that i always failed. i try to explained to the GAMCA that my doctor has already given me a green light and that i was not given anymore medications as it is cured. the doctor only told me that since its a scar, no matter what medicine or vitamins to take ... it will always be there, the scar.

please help as i really need and just like the rest of the OFW, my salary here is not enough for my family needs.

any answers will be valuable. - Art

Yes, I agree to the first comment posted. Same here, I am also an OFW for almost 15 years in Hong Kong in a row but now that I still find hard to earn a higher pay than being an ordinary employee and of course employers look for younger applicant. How about those who has the experience and still want to work abroad just like me and many others.
I hope there should be a kind of consideration in choosing an applicant, like experience wise regarding work.
Thank you and Good Luck to all!!!! - Mary Anne
