Q: What do you think about the deployment ban in Iraq?
It should be lifted because there are job opportunities for OFWs there.
The ban is necessary for the protection of OFWs.
I don't care about this issue.

China, South Korea, Singapore, etc.: Attractive Destinations For OFWs

Jul 24, 2010

The economies of many Asian countries are booming. This is said to be an effect of the recession experienced in America and Europe. So what does this mean for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs)? As the center of economy shifts from the Europe and America to Asia, the greener pastures that is always sought by OFWs can now be find in our neighboring countries.

Due to this development, OFWs especially those who belong to the younger age group are advised to eye overseas job opportunities in Asian countries such as China, India, Singapore, Vietnam, Hong Kong, South Korea, etc. The economies of the said countries are expected to further grow and improve in the years to come. Whereas the economy and industrialization efforts of their counterparts in the West (including the Asian country Japan) are becoming stagnant.

The global power is shifting now in Asia and many economists predict that China will beat the dominance of the USA in the world market by 2027 and that India will soon be the 3rd’s largest economy of the world.

Some Asian countries whose economies are growing are also threatened with the problem of aging population. This will result to rise in employment opportunities for OFWs in countries such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore. The said countries are expected to need foreign workers with above-average levels of education and technical training.

Filipino workers whose expertise are in the field of management and are fluent in the English language can find job opportunities in countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia, and other Asian labor market that lacks English-speaking professionals.

Yes, really , me also wondering how come the age matters in the Philippines even as dishwasher , waitress, factory workers!!!! Go to Malaysia, China, Singapore and Thailand that's why so many Filipinos there coz they can work even they are 38 yrs old above! Here in the Philippines, try to apply for a waitress or factory worker and even u have a lot of experience and u are a professional, coz u are 39 yrs old, BANG!!! You cannot, coz u're not young anymore!! So what do u expect for other Filipinos, they go out!!!! I was surprised in Changi Airport in Singapore, the ones working there, those utilities and those who r pushing the carts, they were oldies! Why we can't do that here in our country? Try to apply of anything, but they need to have a 3 year experienced and how is that?! How if u are newly graduate? How to have experience when after u study so fast so u can work after college...waaah, they need EXPERIENCED PERSONS! I know they need those who have experience but can they accept them first so they can have this experience? So what those newly grad do? Those people who after for so long wants to work again? Do they don't have a choice....to work here? Are the people working in our system of education and the owners of private companies haven't notice that? Well on the other hand where are those requirements and qualifications came from? Did the Senate Committe on Education checked that? The bottom line, they prefer US to work abroad.....so that.....THAT! - Victoria

One of my biggest mistake when I was in korea is to go home when my contract is over. I would rather run away(tnt) and keep on working. I got E9 visa the last visa for all the industrial trainees working for 5 years straight. I got the wrong advice that I can easily go back if I go home lagally. They change the ages limit either by poea or korean goverment. Those who reach 38 years old and above not allowed to go back anymore. Even you are very expert in a certain position. For those lucky who enter korea for any type of work now dont ever come back (home). - Arcangel Bual

Not a good news for applicant with this age range from 38 above. While my expereicne when I was working in South Korea, they openly accepts other EPS applicant above this age range 40 above from other EPS sending countries while when I got displace and apply back to eps to my disappointment, age is until 38 and that they use the same age requirement to apply for JPEPA in japan.I mean,Its only philippines who regulates age requirement. They want to make all people of applicant with this age 39 above to have closed the opportunities, and thats the mere reason of a lot of TNT's because they are afraid to get back home,I just dont know the delemma,I f i better know it,I am one who dont want to go back home after ebing displaced and stay on South Korea being TNT.

Look,POEA are now asking the EPS test takers to submit all pertinent requirement so they can process soon the rooster of EPS TEST PASSER for job hiring inclusion to HRD KOREA ,why do they asked?because they dont got a good choice of applicant, sometime filipino applicant of younger age are very choosy to work especially to USA/CANADA/AUSTRALIA which is out of reach and they only trying their luck in applying to south korea while focusing their application until when they are asked by POEA to submit pertinent documents for name submission to HRD KOREA they have no available one to submit,This is it,if they just erase the age rquirement,so I can apply,I can even assure them to get to a passing score in KOREAN EPS test and I even has the available documents ready at hand when they need. They would not wait for so long of an applicant to submit the said documents.

And one thing more, poea should have better assessment for those whi are willing to live for longer time outside the country who can manage their homesick situation. Its a big problem in those govt of countries when filipino cant manage to stay until the contract has finish.

Well, its nice to be jobless for more than two years now ,better much if philippines is the same with other countries who has a support for jobless natives but none.Thas why I cant blame for those TNT because they ended up their decision the best one rather than getting back to philippines jobless and theres no one who will shoulder for their foods, and education obligation to their siblings.

Its one thing that the philippine government has to check/examine/consider for the best of filipinos. - Rey Enriquez
