Maldives: Island Nation Blessed With Natural Resources

Maldives is an island nation located in the Indian Ocean. It is also known as the Maldive Islands. As of the year 2009, there are 300 documented Filipino migrants and tourist in the country.

 

Maldivians are very eager to preserve their heritage and culture. Maldives has now embraced change but still, Maldivians work very hard to show other culture that their identity, ideas, and character as a nation will not change despite of the inevitable changes happening around.

 

Poverty is also very rampant in Maldives but still, their national infrastructures are well- developed. The government also gave attention to their business, health, and education sector.

 

General Info

 

Aesthetically, Maldives is a beautiful country blessed with unique natural resources. It has a lot of white sand beaches and one of the top countries to visit. Hotel accommodations are costly since they monopolize the services and guests are obliged to pay a ten percent tip. There are several jobs for Filipinos in Maldives, wherein most jobs are concentrated in the hotel and restaurant industry. It is a given because Maldives is an island nation and therefore, there are a lot of resorts and hotels in the country to accommodate tourists.

 

Country Climate: The climate in Maldives is dry, humid, and hot. The climate in Maldives is tropical and the temperature throughout the year is around 30 degrees.

 

 

Currency: Their currency is Maldive Rufiyaa (MVR). One MVR is equivalent to PHP 2.64 and for US dollars, one MVR is $0.06.

Population: The population of Maldives is 369,031. Of its 1,190 islands, only 200 are inhabited and 87 are used as tourist resorts

 

Religion: Most Madivians are Sunni Muslims and they observe Islamic traditions and culture in the country.

 

Language: Maldivians speak Indo- Aryan language and about 350,000 people speak it. The major dialects of Maldivian are Malé, Huvadhu, Mulaku, Addu, Haddhunmathee and Maliku.

 

Government Type: Maldives is a republic country. Their legal system is based on Islamic laws of English common law when it comes to commercial matters.

 

Local Laws for Foreigners in Maldives

 

Maldives is an Islamic country and seriously implement their laws. The public observation of any religion other than Islam is not allowed. Foreigners must respect their customs and traditions especially during Ramadan. Nudism and topless sunbathing are not allowed anywhere in the country. Same sex relationships are illegal and offenders may be given long sentences and fines. Alcoholic drinks are only sold in resorts and must not be sneaked out. Exporting shells and corals is also forbidden.
