Government to Help Filipinos from Libya Find Jobs
Aug 8, 2014
The government will help repatriated Filipino workers from strife-torn Libya in finding jobs, Malacañang said.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will assist OFWs from Libya in looking for job vacancies in the Philippines.
Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said the agency assist Pinoy workers from Libya in looking for opportunities in the Philippines or abroad.
The Palace official also recalled how the government put contingency plans in place for Filipino workers in Taiwan last year when Taiwan imposed a hiring freeze in the wake of the killing of a Taiwanese fisherman in the Balintang Channel.
He admitted that it would be difficult to encourage some Filipinos, such as those already married to Libyan nationals, to go back to the Philippines.
Lacierda nevertheless reiterated the government's appeal that Filipinos leave Libya.
He added that the government is trying to contact the OFWs by coordinating with the Filipino community in Libya as well as their relatives in the Philippines.
