New School for Filipino Students in UAE Opens
Audrey, Aug 27, 2014
Filipino students worried by the closure of a school may benefit from the opening of a new school in United Arab Emirates or UAE.
When the Philippine National School (PNS) closed down, Filipino students in UAE together with their parents began to worry. They didn't know how they would be able to continue their studies and which school will accept these Filipino students. But then came a school to the rescue.
The establishment of The Philippine School or TPS in Abu Dhabi gave the Filipino students hope since the shutdown of PNS last month. This is in accordance to the Abu Dhabi Education Council's strict implementation of closing down schools operating from residential premises since 2010 for safety and security reasons.
The Philippine School, located in Baniyas East, operates from a government school building provided by Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) and is a branch of TPS Dubai.
TPS Managing Director Letty Maniaul said the school opened as response to the demand of bringing not only their service, but also the best education for the Filipino community in Abu Dhabi. They've started registration right after ADEC gave the license.
According to TPS Department Head Elinor Monique Sevilla who is in charge of the registration at Baniyas school, PNS students will be prioritized, expecting to be around 500 enrolees. Also, a 50-percent discount will be given once the eSIS or Enterprise Student Information System number is presented. Although most of the registrants are from PNS, there are some who came from schools in Emirate, Dubai and the Philippines. Classes will start on September 1.
