New Registration Procedure Awaits Nurses & Midwives Bound to UK

The Department of Labor and Employment or DOLE had announced changes on registration process for Filipinos wanting to work in the United Kingdom as nurses and midwives to start this September.
DOLE Secrertary Rosalinda Baldoz said that this new procedure of the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) will be applicable to all nursed and midwives who is educated outside the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA).
The new process now includes:
1. A test of compliance which replaces the overseas nursing programmes (ONP) and adaption midwifery programmes (AMP). This two-part test includes a computer-based multiple choice examination and a practical objective-structured clinical examination (OSCE).
2. A practical exam that is to be held in UK, to begin at a test center at the University of Northampton, and will eventually expand to include more centers.
Joan Lourdes Villa, Labor Attaché to the United Kingdom confirmed that this change is part of the UK NMC efforts to protect its migrant workers from exploitation, while stressing on quality, fairness, and transparency in the application process.
