Why Aren’t They Heeding the Call Against the P550 ITF
Feb 25, 2015
From the start, overseas Filipino workers and OFW groups are calling on the government’s action to stop the implementation of the P550 terminal fee inclusion on airline tickets. They deem that this is a violation of the OFWs right, which is under the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995. And since OFWs don’t want another burden, numerous campaigns and protests have been staged against the ITF or integrated terminal fee. Different OFW groups had also taken action by filing for ITF’s temporary restraining order . They had also seek support from Senators stating the illegality of the terminal fee where OFWs should be exempted from.
But nevertheless, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) and the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) seem to ignore these calls.
At least 20 Senators have agreed to question the implementation of the terminal fee, stating that it should be suspended until there is a guaranteed assurance for OFWs exemption on purchasing tickets online.
It is also said that the terminal fee integration cannot cause profit loss in the government’s part.
