OFWs Can Now Choose Clinics for Medical Exam
May 20, 2015
OFWs can now select clinics for their medical examination as a pre-employment requirement to work abroad. This is after the Supreme Court had refused the petition of GAMCA to stop the implementation of the "decking system".
Though GAMCA or GCC Accredited Medical Clinics Association is still the sole medical group authorized to conduct the pre-employment medical examinations, they can’t continue with their decking system.
The decking system works by requiring OFWs to register with GAMCA and wait as they are assigned to accredited clinics for their medical exams. Often, OFWs spend more when their medical exams are done in non-GAMCA clinics as this is invalid and unrecognized.
Now, OFWs has the liberty to choose which GAMCA-accredited clinics would supervise their medical exams as part of their requirement to work abroad.
Middle East countries like Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates and Bahrain are members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and are strict in implementing their policy on preventing expat workers with communicable diseases from entering their territory.
