May 21, 2015
In the United Kingdom, Cynthia Alcantara-Barker became the first Filipino to be elected as Elstree and Borehamwood’s town councilor.
Barker believed that Filipinos can volunteer and be involved in charity organizations, sharing with others their skills and talents. This is after she observed that Filipinos are now engaging in political and civic works within their community.
A native of San Pablo City, Barker won as town councilor in the 2015 UK General Elections under the Conservative Party.
