POEA warns Filipinos about fake Portugal jobs via email
Feb 9, 2016
The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration or POEA advises Filipinos looking for overseas job to be careful with employment offers via email. According to POEA Administrator Hans Leo J. Cacdac, the Philippine Embassy in Lisbon still receive cases of Filipinos who have received job offers to Portugal through email with the promise of processing work permits. These deceitful persons illegally represents real and prominent companies by using the data on its website but replacing their contact information. Cacdac said the illegal recruiters would ask payments for Entry Clearance Certificates, International Overseas Employment Certificates (IOEC) and Affidavits of Guarantee Fund which were not required by the Portuguese authorities.
Reputable companies in Portugal have their own human resources department that handles personal interviews and do not hire through the internet.
Any job offer that asks money before being employed is a sign of scam and illegal recruitment.
Overseas job applicants should verify first with POEA the authenticity of job offered via email. This can be validated at www.poea.gov.ph; hotlines 7221144 or 7221155; the POEA mobile app and with the Facebook and Twitter accounts.
