Willy Labastida: An Achiever in Saudi Arabia

Sep 3, 2008

Seven years of working in the Philippines failed to give Willy the job satisfaction and fulfillment he was looking for. Even if he was then working as an Audit Department Head (a sought-after job in his field), he is still craving for more. He wanted a job that would give him new and greater challenges as well as help him provide a better life for him and his family.

This is the reason why he decided to work overseas although he is not very fortunate with his first job. He was first hired as an Accountant in Jeddah but to his dismay, he was tasked to be a Data Entry Encoder. Instead of wallowing in self pity and regret, Willy decided to just do his best as an encoder in the aim to be promoted. His efforts paid off as only two months passed before he was transferred to the Cashier Department and he managed to hold that position until he finished his contract and filed for exit.

Willy got his present job in Riyadh when he applied for an overseas job for the second time and got hired as an Accountant cum Secretary. This time he finds overseas job hunting easy as he was an experienced OFW with complete documentary requirements. He arrived in Riyadh August of 2004.

Willy was happy in Riyadh as he met lot of new friends as well as found some of his old co-workers while still in Jeddah. Still in all endeavors difficulties are sometimes unavoidable.

In Willy’s case, he finds it hard to deal with Filipino colleagues with negative attitudes. Instead of succumbing to fighting, he just ignored unpleasant people and just concentrated on how he can perform his duties and responsibilities excellently.

Through Willy’s constant effort to be an achiever, employers noticed his exemplary performance and soon his salary was doubled, he also gets allowances beside food like accommodation and transportation.

Willy from Maasin, Southern Leyte owes his success from his guiding principle in life which is Good, Better, Best. Willy said, “Dont let it rest until the good become better and the better become Best.

His message to all OFWs around the world…Pray, be religious and godly because God will give you your dreams.
