Employment opportunities
for healthcare professionals overseas show no signs of waning despite the current global financial crisis. Amidst news that many companies abroad are closing down leaving more overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) unemployed, a recruitment consultant informed that a reputable health care company based in United States of America will arrive in the country next month to recruit Filipino healthcare workers.
According to Emmanuel Geslani, 600 registered nurses, physical and occupational therapists
is urgently needed to work in different hospitals all over USA. Representatives of the employer, Cambridge Healthcare in Maryland will be in the Philippines in January 2009 to interview and select applicants. Cambridge Healthcare is associated with 260 first-class facilities all over America.
Recruitment and selection of applicants to be deployed in US hospitals connected with Cambridge Healthcare will be managed by St. Georges Recruitment International, Inc., a recruitment agency.
Based on the agreement with St. Georges, hired healthcare professionals will be allowed to work in the US from three to six months. They will be granted an H-1B visa under a non-cap exempt status, so hired workers can expect immediate departure upon hiring. This means that their occupation is not covered by the retrogression period for H-1B visas, which requires longer processing.
The H-1B visa is “a nonimmigrant classification used by an alien who will be employed temporarily in a specialty occupation or as a fashion model of distinguished merit and ability,” according to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services,
Deployed healthcare professionals are also entitled to benefits from Cambridge Healthcare. A relocation bonus, assistance and housing allowance, a 36-hour week with 12-hour shifts, worthwhile overtime pay, US standard benefits and options, paid legal, licensing and testing fees and the option of being joined by one’s spouse and two children under 21, are just some of the benefits they can enjoy.
The minimum salary is USD 48,192 or more or less Php 2.4 million per annum. Salary can be higher depending on one’s experience and competence.
Nurses and therapists with a minimum work experience of one year in a 100-bed capacity hospital are eligible to apply fo the job vacancies. A passing mark in the following: National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nurse (NCLEX), International English Language Testing System (IELTS), and National Physical Therapy Examination are preferred but not necessary.
Geslani said. “This is because the employer can assist the selected applicant in taking the NCLEX, visa screen, state licensure, etc. The screening of applicants is currently on-going and interested applicants may still apply for evaluation.”
Interested applicants can send their resumes through courier, e-mail or walk-in at St. Georges Recruitment International at
