Middle Eastern Countries Offer 200,000 Jobs for OFWs

The Middle East is a popular work destination for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) as there are various employment opportunities waiting for them there. This was confirmed by the announcement made by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo that a total of 200,141 new jobs are available for OFWs in the Middle East and Northern Africa Region.
The announcement was made after the President saw the report of a two day job summit in Dubai. During the first day of the summit, the President was presented a manifesto that states that there are more than 200,000 jobs for OFWs in the Middle East.
The said manifesto was presented to President Arroyo by two representatives present at the summit which are Labor Attaché Virginia Calvez of the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and Muriel Joseph, Chief People Officer of Saudi Oger Ltd.
According to the manifesto, jobs for OFWs are most abundant in Kuwait with 39,169 job requirement. With 39,128 jobs, this is closely followed by UAE and Saudi Arabia with 31,097. Countries in Libya, Arab and Africa has 21, 517 jobs while Oman has 11, 356. Bahrain is at the bottom with 3,446.
The said summit was participated by established firms and new companies from UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Libya, Algeria, Oman and Bahrain. The measures to take so that the Philippines can take advantage and quickly fill up the huge job orders in the Middle East and North African region was also discussed by employers, recruitment agencies, and officials from the Philippines and gulf countries. The discussion was led by Labor Secretary Marianito Roque.
The job summit aims to create more job prospects as well as preserve existing jobs by assessing the employment and business opportunities available in the regions of Middle East and North Africa.
It also seeks to recognize the problems and issues encountered both by sending and receiving countries in the process of overseas employment as well as to propose solutions to address the concerns.
