Saudi To Hire Filipino Household Workers Again

 The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is ready to issue work visas to Filipino household service workers again. Furthermore, Saudi also increased the minimum salary to USD400 or SR1,500. 
OFWs to Register for Absentee Voting Gets a Chance to Win Trips and Gift Checks

To encourage more overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to register for the Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV) and vote for the 2013 elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced that they are ready to give away all-expense paid trips to top tourist spots in the Philippines and gift checks through a raffle. All OFWs who will register for the coming elections will get a chance to win.

New Screening Procedures for Filipinos Traveling Abroad

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has a new program that would ensure that screening procedures of international travelers in all airports and seaports would be done with utmost courtesy. The new program BI-Cares stands for “courtesy, accountability, responsibility, efficiency, and service” and it comes with the guidelines on how immigration officers should properly inspect arriving and departing international travelers.

Saudi May Hire Filipino Household Service Workers Again

  The undersecretary of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Danilo Cruz said that the governments of Saudi Arabia and the Philippines are set to sign a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Cruz said that upon the signing of the new MOU, Saudi Arabia would again hire Filipino household service workers (HSWs).
Lower Terminal Fee for Departing International Passengers

 Effective February 1, departing international passengers would only pay Php550 instead of Php750 for the terminal fee. The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) announced that they will rollback the current terminal fee to the original rate of Php550 because the previous increase was only valid for five years.  
Proposed Direct Recruitment System for Taiwan Okay With POEA

The government of Taiwan is expected to implement the International Direct e-Recruitment System (IDeS), a new hiring policy for foreign workers this January and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) expressed its support to the planned implementation.
DOLE: Ready to Give Livelihood Assistance Packages to Repatriated OFWs from Syria

Hans Cacdac is New POEA Chief

    A simple turnover ceremony officially declares Hans Cacdac as the new chief of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).   The turnover was attended by POEA directors and several senior Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) officials. Both DOLE chief, Baldoz and former POEA chief, Carlos Cao were not present during the event.

The government of Canada has implemented shorter procedures in the application of permanent residency of foreign caregivers. Aside from the easier process, Canada has also approved new policies that would protect foreign caregivers from abusive employers.  
Plan to Increase OFW Philhealth Premiums Opposed by OFW Organizations

 Philhealth Corporation through its circular No. 022 states that the premium payment of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) would increase in 2012.  The said Philhealth circular plans to increase the Philhealth premium payment of OFWs from Php900 to Php1200 starting January of 2012. By Juy 2012, another increase would raise the premium payment to Php2400.
