As of this writing, no overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) will be allowed to go to three Middle Eastern countries to work. The government recently suspended the recruitment and deployment of OFWs to Bahrain, Yemen and Libya because of the violent protests happening in the countries mentioned.

The secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Rosalinda Baldoz orders the strict implementation of deployment ban to 5 Middle Eastern countries. As of this writing, employment contracts of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) bound to Lebanon, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Jordan will not be processed.

DOLE Reiterates Warning Against Hiring of Seasonal Workers in Italy

The warning is applicable to all Filipino workers who are thinking of working abroad, but in this particular advisory, Baldoz is specifically referring to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) bound to Syria. The warning was issued because the Labor Department received a report from the Labor Attache in Damascus, Mr. Angel Borja that there are undocumented OFWs in Syria. |

POEA and US Embassy: No Recruitment Fee Policy For Guam-bound OFWs

In a separate POEA advisory, it said “The policy, contained in POEA Memorandum Circular No. 10 Series of 2009 issued in September last year, is in line with US Government regulations which forbids the charging of recruitment or placement fees from a worker as a condition for employment under an H-2B visa."
