Job Description of Aircraft Mechanic

 

Nature of Job:

Aircraft Mechanic are responsible in the maintenance and repair of aircrafts particularly airplanes and helicopters. He also test and reports if the aircraft is having trouble with its functions or if it has leaks and damages.

 

Basic Tasks:

  • Maintain and Repair aircraft engines
  • Conduct time to time inspections to aircrafts
  • Check other aircraft parts for inspections and maintenance
  • Repairs and fabricates sheet metals for damage airframes.
  • Examines engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks
  • Report any damages and repairs to the head mechanic or aircraft manager
  • Test engine functions.
  • Inspect turbine blades to detect malfunctions and damages
  • Perform other repair and maintenance work for aircrafts as assigned

 

Education and Training Requirements:

  • Must have a degree in Aviation
  • Degree in Aircraft Mechanic is also acceptable
  • Must have at least 3-5 years of experience as an aircraft mechanic

 

Salary Information:

Overseas Employment:

  • US- USD49,000 or PhP2,371,355 per annum
  • Australia- AUD25.75 or PhP810 per hour
  • Canada-CAD48,495 or PhP1,824,973 per annum

 

Skills and Competency Requirements:

  • Must have wide knowledge in aircrafts parts particularly engines and turbines
  • Must have the knowledge and ability to repair damage or malfunctioned engines
  • Knowledge of airframes and engines repair, maintenance and methods
  • Knowledge in using mechanic equipments such as micrometers, rivet guns, power and hand drills and other heavy and hand equipments.
  • Must have knowledge and ability to do fabricating for airframes
  • Knowledge and ability to handle tough and heavy duties for repair and inspection.
  • Must have good communication skills.
  • Must have strong built.

Work Environment:

Aircraft Mechanics are often seen dirty, working under big aircrafts. They used to work under heat and dirt from grease since they used to check oils and engines. The work of aircraft mechanics involves using heavy and powered equipment and so they are provided with safety outfits and accessories.

 

 

Work Hours:

Work Hours for Aircraft mechanics is depend upon the condition of the aircraft. Normally they spent 6-8 hours fixing difficult repairs and fabrications.

 

Career Advancement:

Entry level Aircraft Mechanics can be promoted as Senior Aircraft Mechanics as soon as he/she meets the requirements for promotion
