Nature of Job:

Nursing Aides are responsible for hospital maintenance and provide assistance to patients. They are under the supervision of nursing and medical tasks. They often provide the cleanliness and orderliness in the hospital.

 

Basic Tasks:

  • Prepare and change beddings, towels, pillows that will be used by patients.
  • Deliver messages from the doctors to the patients or vice versa.
  • Assist patients with their demands and needs.
  • Bathe and dress patients
  • Prepare the meal of the patients; feed them if necessary.
  • Collect used utensils such as plates; also collect used medicine bottles, needles, gloves to dispatch.
  • Prepare the dose of the patients.
  • Clean hospital rooms; disinfect to avoid contaminations.
  • Takes and records patient’s temperature, blood pressures and respiration rates.
  • Do hospital errands.
  • Follow tasks assigned by chief nurse or doctors.

 

Education and Training Requirements:

  • Must have a degree in Nursing or Nursing Aide and hold an authentic license.
  • Training in any related medical activities and seminars is preferred but not required.
  • IELTS and NCLEX passers
  • Must have at least 2 years experience as a nurse or nursing aide.

 

Salary Information:

Local Employment:

  • Local Nursing Aide receives PhP8-10,000 per month

 

Overseas Employment:

  • US- USD26,038 or PhP1,260,109 per annum
  • Taiwan- TWD17,280 or PhP24,244 per month
  • Saudi Arabia- SAR2,000 or PhP25,845 per month

 

Skills and Competency Requirements:

  • Knowledge and ability in hospital settings.
  • Must have wide knowledge and ability on attending patients.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform hospital duties such as preparing for meals and medication of patients.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform hospital errands particulary changing beddings and disinfecting used rooms.
  • Ability to assist patients to bathe and help them dress and undress.
  • Knowledge and ability to take blood pressures, temperatures and check other vital signs.
  • Report observations to head nurse or doctors.
  • Ability to communicate well.

 

 

 

Employment Opportunities:

Medical related jobs are still needed abroad especially the skills of Nursing Aides. In countries like Canada and Australia, the demand for Nursing Aide remains enormous; the salary is almost the same as Registered Nurses. However, they require experienced and IELTS or NCLEX passers.

 

Work Environment:

Nursing Aides works in routines, they often do the cleaning for the entire rooms in the hospitals. Part of their task is to assist patients to take a bath and feed them. For entry level Nursing Aides, the tasks are quite tiring, but they will get used to it in the long run.

 

Work Hours:

Nursing Aides work in shifting schedules; they work for at least 8-10 hours a day.

 

Career Advancement:

Nursing Aides who is a Registered Nurse can be promoted as Nurse. Nursing Aides can also take private assistance which profit much higher.
