Job Description of Travel Nurse

 

Nature of Job:

Travel Nurse is deployed in different places or even countries to work as volunteer or work with other medical professionals and researchers who travel to do study or charity works.

 

 

Basic Tasks:

 

  • Offers medical assistance to patients
  • Make initial assessments about the patient’s condition
  • Check vital signs
  • Prepare the medicines, equipments or any medical instruments needed for the check-up or operation
  • List down necessary information about the patient
  • Make a travel diary or journal in each destination
  • Prepare needed equipments for the travel

 

 

Educational and Training Requirements:

 

  • Must be a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Must hold a certified license issued by the Professional Regulation Commission
  • Training certificate in first aid and other certification from various medical organizations

 

 

Salary Information:

 

Local Employment:

  • Local Travel Nurse receives P8,000 per month

Overseas Employment:

  • US- USD72,000 or Php3,465,720 per annum (plus free hotel accommodations, medical insurance, bonuses plus other perks)

 

 

Skills and Competency Requirements:

 

  • Must have the knowledge and ability to perform nursing tasks
  • Love to travel
  • Ability to perform under pressure
  • Can work overtime
  • Must have wide range of knowledge and ability to perform first-aids and other precautionary aids.
  • Ability to mingle with other types of people
  • Good communication skills
  • Naturally caring and passionate

 

 

Employment Opportunities:

 

Jobs in Travel Nursing are getting popular especially in the US where nurses are deployed in one state to another. Medical organizations which travel mostly in different third world countries and continents like Africa are also in need of dedicated travel nurse who can work as a volunteer (with allowance).

 

 

Work Environment:

 

Travel Nurse does not have a permanent workplace for they use to move from one place to another. Most of the time, travel nurse place of work is build with tents or in public community centers. Travel Nurse often feel pressured since they need to assist hundreds of patients a day most especially of they are assigned in depressed areas.

 

 

Work Hours:

 

Travel Nurse often works in long hours. They work time ranges in 8-10 hours a day.

 

 

Career Advancement:

Travel Nurse can be promoted to be head nurse or organization leader. Although, there is no specific promotion for Travel Nurses, the perk for travelling the world for free and receive a lot of bonuses is considered as an achievement.
