The government of Italy has good news for all foreign workers including Filipinos who are working in the said European country as an illegal worker. A new law that is soon to be implemented now gives them a chance to legalize their status.

The new policy covers even migrant workers in the service sector such as caregivers and domestic helpers. It would also include foreigners who entered Italy secretly, those with overstaying visas and unsuccessful asylum -seekers who have not left.

The law that will give OFWs without proper working documents in Italy a chance for amnesty is set to start in September of this year. This new law would work for the benefit of the estimated 50,000 overstaying Filipino caregivers and domestic helpers in Italy.

To legalize their status, employers of undocumented workers are required to handle the processing fee for legitimization that costs 500 Euros or Php 34,000.
