Where to Work Abroad? Singapore or Dubai

  Oct 24, 2010

Singapore and Dubai of United Arab Emirates (UAE) are among the top destination for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). Singapore is just few hours away from the Philippines and no major adjustment for the climate. Dubai on the other hand offers a no tax deduction and has totally different climate as compare to us.

In OFWGuide Forum, a member dmbalmediano ask if which among Singapore or Dubai would she choose.

“Any suggestions po? Planning to go to SG get a tourist visa and search for work, pero as the news said madami opening sa dubai.. mas ok ba ang Dubai or Singapore? or mag-direct na lang ako sa mga agency? Thanks” dmbalmediano posted. (Any suggestion, I’m planning to go to Singapore and get a tourist visa to search for work, but I saw in news that there lots of job openings in Dubai. Which is better Dubai or Singapore? Or should I just visit an agency?)

One forumer, joshua_sx1, answered if both employers have the same offer, just choose Singapore. “Less ang culture shock mo,”(Less culture shock for you) he added.

“Pareho lang mataas cost of living nang SG at Dubai. No question, SG ka na, napakalapit, mura pamasahe sa Cebu Pacific anytime ma-homesick ka, sick leave ka lang saglit. O di kaya ang family mo papuntahin mo, less hassle sa family mo if mag-tourist sila. No visa needed, just a round trip ticket within a month or two weeks lang, tapos na ang homesick mo,” forumer matangagila said. (Cost of living in Singapore and Dubai is just the same. No question, just choose Singapore, it’s not too far and the air fare is cheap in Cebu Pacific, anytime you feel homesick, just file a sick leave. Or it’s your family who will visit you, hassle free for them since they don’t have to secure a visa, just a round trip ticket within a month or two weeks will do.)

Singapore and UAE is popular destination for household workers (HSWs), nurse, teachers, information technology professionals and seafarers from 2003-2009 according to the statistics found at Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) website.
