DOLE: Machinist is a Hot Local Job

  Sep 20, 2011

Are you a returning OFW who wish to stay in the country for good? You might want to consider a career as a Machinist. According to the secretary of Labor and Employment, Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz, machinist is an in-demand job in the local manufacturing sector.

The average monthly salary of a machinist in the Philippines is Php20,000 or higher. Baldoz’s statement is part of the government campaign to deliver correct and useful labor market information. The ultimate goal of the campaign is to help students and jobseekers to match their career plans with the demands of the labor market, thus reducing the country’s job-talent mismatch phenomenon.

Baldoz cited a data from the DOLE’s 101 Career Guide and said, “There are enough promising job opportunities for Filipino machinists in the manufacturing sector who could get paid from P15,000 to P20,000 a month.”

She further informed that the P15,000-P20,000 monthly salary is only for the entry level. Trained and experienced applicants can be paid as high as Php30,000 per month.

The Labor Secretary also said that the manufacturing industry needs machinists in the following sectors: electricity, gas and water supply, construction, wholesale and retail trade, and transport, storage and communication.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) offers a training course in machining. The TESDA Training Center has an available Conventional Machining Training Course for 160 hours.

Other careers that are in-demand jobs in the local manufacturing sector are the following: electrical technicians, finance and accounting managers, food technologists, machine operators, and sewers, while hard-to-fill vacancies include chemists, electrical engineers, industrial engineers, IT specialists, machinists, mechanical engineers, mechanical technicians, and chemical engineers.
