  Jun 8, 2012

Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz yesterday announced that 43,000 plus jobs are up for grabs at the Department of Labor and Employment's 2012 Kalayaan Job Fair on 12 June 2012 at the Rizal Park in Manila.

“The Independence Day celebration, the country's 114th, is a historical event. We commemorate on this day the sacrifices of our forebears and our heroes so we can enjoy our freedoms and liberty. On this day, the DOLE will be one with the whole nation in the celebration, but our main consideration is to free our workers from poverty through job facilitation, hence, this job fair," said Baldoz.

"Around 143 companies will join and participate in the job fair which is a component of the 114th Independence Day celebration, on the theme, “Kalayaan: Pananagutan ng Bayan para sa Tuwid na Daan”, Baldoz added.

Of the number, 113 are local employers who will be offering about 33,000 local jobs, while 30 are land-based and sea-based licensed overseas recruitment agencies which will bring in 10,000 overseas job opportunities.

Most of the local job vacancies for professional and technical-vocational workers, and include such positions as accountants, account executives, architects, bakers, baristas, bookkeepers, brand specialists, call center agents, cashiers, copy writers, cooks, drivers, encoders, electricians, engineers, foremen, forklift operators, HR managers, HR staff, interior designers, massage therapists, mechanics, medical representatives, pharmacists, programmers, restaurant managers, riders, surveyors, systems administrators, waiters, web developers, IT staff, training managers, researchers, secretaries, tellers, utility workers, welders, and many others.

Overseas jobs, on the other hand, include vacancies for nurses, physical therapists, all types of engineers, construction workers, welders, CAD draftsmen, safety and health officers, cooks, architects, painters, 3D animators, landscapers, quality control inspectors, dental, laboratory and X-ray technicians, hotel workers, and drivers.

The Philippine National Police (PNP), which will participate in the job fair, is offering 3,000 openings for additional personnel.

“There will be jobs at the 2012 Kalayaan Job Fair for anyone willing to work. Many more employers are calling the DOLE-National Capital Region to express their interest to participate," said Baldoz.

This early, Baldoz advised job applicants to prepare to bring photo copies of all pertinent employment documents, such as resumes or bio-data; transcript of records; diplomas; ID photos; certificate/s from past employers for those previously employed; NBI, police, barangay clearances, whichever is appropriate; and identification cards.

The DOLE's agency-partners are also providing pre-employment documentation services to fresh graduates and new entrants to the labor force to facilitate their job application, including the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI); Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR); PhilHealth; Philippine Postal Corporation (PhilPost).

The Professional Regulations Commission will also provide advisory services to professionals, while workers can avail of the free legal and medical services courtesy of the DOLE family of agencies through the DOLE-Regional Coordinating Council in NCR.

Like in previous DOLE job fairs, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will serve its menu of services, such as skills demonstration on bar tending and free haircuts and massage.

In conducting the 2012 Kalayaan Jobs Fair, the DOLE will be joined once again by its partner-sponsors, namely Banco de Oro, Globe Telecom, Asia Brewery Inc., Sykes, Max’s, Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCI), and San Miguel Corporation.
