The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) is responsible to the welfare of the worker being deployed all over the world.
POEA render services to the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), from the deployment until the OFW was unfortunately sent home. They have assistance center at the international airports and other exit points in the country to just to make sure that workers are properly documented before they go to their overseas job sites. If ever the worker is not properly documented shall not be cleared by the center.
POEA renders continuous service for the OFWs, from repatriation until collection of the cost of repatriation advanced by Overseas Worker Welfare Association (OWWA) for the agency. They notify the agency to provide plane ticket, impose sanctions against the foreign principals/employers/ and even to the licensed local recruitment agencies upon the recommendation of the authorities. They established welfare programs and services to prevent illegal recruitment, fraud and exploitation of OFWs.
Cases involving seafarers, they provide technical and administrative support to the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB). And for the OFWs own good, POEA monitor incidents as reported by agencies.
On the other hand, there are services in which the POEA transferred to OWWA within three months from the effectivity of the POEA Revised Rules and Regulations:
1. Conciliation of complaints of workers and/or their families arising
a. contract violations involving OFWs who are still at the jobsite;
b. common welfare problems outside POEA’s adjudicatory or regulatory authority;
2. Request for assistance of seafarers on cases not involving POEA:
3. Repatriation of workers’ remains and transport of their belongings;
4. Airport/seaport assistance for repatriated OFWs;
5. Legal assistance to OFWs on site on cases involving employer/employee relationship; and
6. Assistance in claiming unpaid allotments and in non-support cases.
