Job Opportunities in Israel

  Maria Theresa S. Samante,  Feb 5, 2006

Aside from care giving industry with 30,000 Filipino workers, hotels and restaurants industry are about to open soon in Israel.

The Philippine government is confident that the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) will have the chance to work in Israel.

According to the Philippine Ambassador to Israel Antonio Modena, the government is negotiating with the Israeli authorities for the job opportunities that would be in store for more OFWs and the implementing rules to ensure their legal entry in the country.

The Ambassador is expecting that the job opening in Israel will attract many OFWs, he added that the salary and working conditions in Israel are good. In fact, an average salary is about $550 every month, plus they are covered by insurance and they’ll receive allowance for an overtime work.

"We're lucky they don't experience problems like non-payment of wages and contract substitution because the Israeli government itself runs after crooks engaged in these acts," said Modena during the 'Kapihan sa Sulo' forum.

He also added that if in case the legitimate worker was injured he’ll receive a pension coming from the Israel government.

"If such workers die, the Israeli government grants beneficiaries of each monthly pension of about 20,000 shekels and even have the corpses brought for free to their countries of origin," he continued.

He assured that the Philippine Embassy in Israel is attentive to the welfare of the OFWs, aside from the benefits that they should receive. He also established a text brigade system that would monitor the condition of every OFWs.

"I established a text brigade system," he said. "All OFWs know my cellphone number so if bombings and other untoward incidents occur, we begin texting one another. If a worker fails to respond, I mobilize our embassy brigade to check whether the person is in one of the health facilities there."
