She is the proof that Filipinos are hardworking. Pilar worked as a domestic helper, after she finished her two-year contract, she still pursue working overseas and right now she works as Personal Assistant to Group CEO.

Why did you decide to leave the Philippines?
I decided to leave the Philippines for the sake of my daughters who were four and six years old then. I want to give them better education for them to have a better life.

How did you get your current job and how did you leave the Philippines?
I was a government employee who left Philippines work as domestic helper (housemaid), though I don’t even know how to cook rice then. My children are my inspiration and my dreams keep me going. After I finished my two years contract as a domestic helper, I went back home and again came back as a tourist to search for a better job. I studied accounting and my six years experience in the government helps me found a clerical and secretarial job in Malaysia which gives better pay than in our country.

When did you arrive in your current location?
I’ve been in Malaysia since 1986. Work as DH for two years and apparently found a clerical/secretarial job in various Malaysian companies. Currently, I am a Personal Assistant to Group CEO with Galakan Simfoni Corporation Berhad. A company that deals with investment, manufacturing, development and consultation.

What were your most memorable moments in your current location?
The challenges I’ve face here specially in seeking a good job was very tough, not to mention the mental torture I am having because I really missed my family specially my two daughters. It’s really unbearable. Meeting lots of Filipinos here keep my sad moment away. Joining the Filipino Workers’ Resource Center gave me memorable moments. I’m actively participating in FWRC activities and teaches Microsoft excel every Sunday. I am the President of the Samahang Impok Bayan, Malaysia (SIB) an organization that encourages and inculcate the habit of savings among OFW to become future Overseas Filipino Investors (OFI)

Tell us what has happened during your stay in this country you have worked in.
Being a Filipino, by nature we are hard working person plus my sincerity, commitments and honesty uplift me in my position now. Due to my good performance I was entrusted to take charge of finance and administration. Basically, I’m next to the boss in ranking. Thanks God for all the blessings.

What are the things that you miss about the Philippines?
In spite of all these success, I’m still not happy being away with my family, I still misses them like before. My two daughters have finished their studies (HRM & PT). Both were married, I have one grandson and another coming soon. I have fulfilled my dream. I missed not seeing them grow, not being with them when they need my presence.

What is your message to all OFWs around the world?
All I can say is, think of tomorrow. Save whatever we can save today. Don’t let our sacrifices go to waste. Save for the future and for rainy days. God bless us. Mabuhay ang Filipino!!
