HSPI: An Agency Concern with Your Future

  Jul 8, 2007

The friendly and hospitable nature of the Filipinos makes them excellent hospitality workers worldwide. One agency that is helping spread quality Filipino workers in various parts of the world is Hospitality Staff Philippines, Inc. (HSPI).

A recruitment agency with a POEA License since October of 2005, HSPI operates with the motto, Work passionately, Live excellently, and Relate joyfully. The commitment of HSPI to provide excellent recruitment and deployment process both for employers and applicants is clear in their mission which is to inspire Filipino Hospitality Professionals to uphold the values of excellence, professionalism and customer satisfaction at all times wherever they may be.

HSPI’s History

The President and CEO of HSPI is Mr. Victor Fabregas Alcuaz. Mr. Alcuaz started his career in the service industry with Philippine Airlines (1975- 1983) where he was an International Flight Crew and later a Crew Trainer and Audio-Visual Officer. In 1985 the Hyatt Regency Manila appointed him Director of Human Resources; in 1990 when Shangri-La International was preparing to open its first hotel in the Philippines, the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel, Vic was hired as the opening Human Resources Director, a position he held until 1993. In 1994 he established Hotel Staff Philippines. Mr. Alcuaz is an active member of the Association of Human Resources Managers in the Hospitality Industry (AHRM) of which he was President in 1987, 1995, 1996 and 1997.

HSPI started as a domestic hospitality executive search firm in 1994 immediately after its Mr Alcuaz resigned as HR Director from the Edsa Shangri-la Hotel. HSPI was fortunate to have opened several hotels and resorts in the country, recruiting executives and staff in all levels. Among these establishments are the Heritage Hotel, Punta Baluarte hotel, the Delta Philippine Dream Hotel and Casino among others. In 2005, HSPI was granted an international recruitment license by the P.O.E.A and thus since this time HSPI has grown from a domestic recruitment company to an international recruitment company deploying Filipino hospitality executives and staff to about 20 countries worldwide.

HSPI and Applicants

The requirements of HSPI for an applicant will depend on the position and what the employers are looking for. If a job is for a five Star Hotel abroad then a minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience in a local 5 Star Hotel is required. Ultimately, HSPI look at the attitude of the applicant, if he/she has the right attitude towards work then he/she has a greater chance of being placed by HSPI. The placement fee structure varies from client to client. HSPI offers financial assistance to clients if necessary.

HSPI and WorkAbroad

The resume browse function of Workabroad.ph is useful for HSPI as it permits them to search the whole database of Workabroad.ph and targets and select applicants quickly and efficiently.

Through WorkAbroad.ph, HSPI was able to hire an applicant who was based in Mindanao. The applicant was extremely qualified but at the time it seemed like he had very little chance of being selected due to his location. HSPI sent the applicant an e-mail and conducted a phone interview. From Mindanao, he went to Manila for the employer’s interview and passed it with flying colors.
