The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has good news for all skilled Filipino workers who are looking for better opportunities overseas. Job opportunities for Filipinos may soon be available in Prince Edward. Prince Edward is a Canadian island-province near New Brunswick and Quebec.

In November, Richard Brown, Canada’s Minister of the Ministry of Development and Technology is set to come to the Philippines to talk about the possible signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Canada and the Philippines. This is according to the DFA report.
The labor and immigration ministry of Prince Edward cites trade areas in the Philippines which will be prioritized. It includes mining, call centers, traditional products, electronics and garments.
Arturo Brillantes, Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs said, “MOUs recognize that the Philippines and the province would benefit from Philippine labor and commensurately, both would also benefit from easier deployment procedures."
The proposed agreement would make it possible for the Philippines to send skilled workers and develop Prince Edward’s natural resources (s oil, gas, minerals) and non-traditional resources.
The discussion regarding the MOU would cover clear and measurable guidelines procedures, wages, and working conditions. It will also include protection of hired Filipino applicants from abusive employers.
