Work in Manitoba, Canada: Application How To’s

  Maria Theresa S. Samante,  Sep 27, 2009

In our previous article, FAQ’s of the Manitoba Nominee Program, we discussed how and who can apply for Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). In this article, we provide the assessment processes where your application may suit.

The MPNP has five Priority Assessment Streams and a General Stream. You can migrate in Manitoba through the following stream:

General Stream

You can apply to MPNP under General stream if all of the requirements below are met:

  • Proof of a close relative in Manitoba, Canada
  • Two Affidavit of Support from close friends or distant relatives in Manitoba
  • Certificate or other proof that you have been employed in Manitoba (minimum of six months)
  • Certificate or other proof of a completed education program in Manitoba (excluding language training programs)
  • Applicants with close relatives in Manitoba should only apply to the General Stream if they do not meet the eligibility criteria for the Family Support priority assessment stream.

Priority Streams

If you are trying to apply under Priority stream of assessment here are some guidelines that may be helpful.

Employer Direct Stream

The MPNP Employer Direct stream helps employers recruit or even retain a foreign worker who have knowledge/skill in a position that no permanent resident/citizen of Canada can fill.

Family Support Stream

The MPNP Family Support stream evaluates skilled workers who can present proof that he/she has a relative living successfully in Manitoba. Applicants for the MPNP through the Family Support should meet the following requirements:

  • proof of a close relative in Manitoba defined as a mother/father, son/daughter, sister/brother, aunt/uncle, niece/nephew, grandparent, or first cousin (your aunt/uncle’s son/daughter),
  • an Affidavit of Support form signed by a close relative in Manitoba,
  • authority to disclose information to the Manitoba close relative who is expected to be closely involved with the application process,
  • passed minimum age, education, work experience, and language ability requirements for the Family Support stream.

Are there any fees required?

There is no fee to be collected for applicants in the MPNP. Only the Province of Manitoba has the full authority to nominate applicants for Permanent Resident status in Canada. Nomination for Permanent Resident status is base on the assessment of the Province according to the potential of the applicant as an independent skilled worker.
