POEA: Nursing Exams In Japan Not Will Not be In English

Reports that the licensure examination for foreign nurses in Japan will now be given in English is not true. This is the clarification made by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) which has come from a representative of the Japan Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW).

The Labor Department is pushing for an intense Japanese language training program for all Filipino nurses and caregivers who want to work in Japan. This is part of the agency’s effort to solve the extremely low passing rate of Filipino nurses and caregivers in the licensure examination in Japan.

Filipinos who want to be employed in Korea must pass the EPS-TOPIK (EPS-KLT), implemented by the Human Resources Development. Only the successful examines of the EPS-TOPIK will be included in the roster of available workers by submitting the job application for the EPS. Being an EPS-KLT passer guarantee one’s inclusion in the list of jobseekers but it does not guarantee that one will be deployed to the said country.

Implementation Of Expanded OFW Protection To Start This Month

The new law that would give more benefit and protection for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) is set to be implemented this month.  According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), this development would be to the advantage of about eight million OFWs all over the world.  
OFWs Now Required To Be A PAG-IBIG Member

Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) now have an additional fee to pay before they will be given an Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) -- the Php600 membership fee for Pag-IBIG fund. The new memorandum from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) now requires all OFWs to be a member of Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF) or Pag-IBIG Fund. The Php600 would be equivalent to six months of contribution.

Migrante, a large group of Filipino migrant workers is against the proposal to require all Filipino workers based in the Middle East undergo an HIV/AIDS test. This call came after reports that the number of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Middle East afflicted with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) is increasing at an alarming rate.

According to POEA, two months after conducting the 6th EPS-KLT exam, not all of the 2,775 applicants who passed the test are in the Roster of Jobseekers for Korea’s Employment Permit System- a list where potential Korean employers can choose candidates for employment.
