Nature of Job:

Pharmacists are responsible in giving/selling prescribed drugs fro patients. They often work in hospitals and drug stores. Part of their job is to assist customers on medications to buy, whether its generic or branded.

Basic Tasks:

• Take and receive prescribe drugs from patients/customers
• Check the validity of each drugs being distributed/sold (ie, Expiration and Manufacturing date).
• Reviews and interprets physician’s drug orders for clarity, rationality, dosage form, allergies, interactions, incompatibility, etc.
• Sell/ distribute drugs as prescribe by physician.
• Ask for receipts before selling medications.
• Advice customers on the best medication/drugs.
• Give instruction to customers on how to consume or use the medication.
• Inform customers about available drugs.
• Advice customers about the use and side effects of the product.
• Study new medications and products.

Educational and Training Requirements:

• Must have a degree in Pharmacy.
• Must hold an authentic license.
• Must have at least 2-3 years experience as a Pharmacist in Hospital or Drug Store.

Skills and Competency Requirements;

• Must have wide knowledge in Pharmacy.
• Must have wide knowledge in identifying drugs.
• Knowledge in different kind of prescription.
• Knowledge in generic and branded medications.
• Must have knowledge in minor and major illness treatments.
• Ability to advice what product is meant for patients.
• Knowledge in selling.
• Can communicate well with physicians and patients.
• Must be accurate and keen to details.
• Can read doctors penmanship.

Employment Opportunities:

Pharmacists remains in high demand abroad especially in US, Canada, Australia and Singapore. It is one of the most in demand jobs at the moment since these countires are expending their health care unit. A pharmacist' salary is much higher than nurses and caregivers and considered as one of the highest paying jobs in US.

Work Environment:

Most pharmacist works in drug stores rather than in hospitals. Hospital pharmacists are more toxic since they have to attend patients and communicate with physicians from time to time. On the other hand, drug store pharmacists task is not as complicated, although they have to stand and attend to customers most of the time.

Work Hours:

Pharmacist works for 8-10 hours a day.

Career Advancement:

A highly skilled pharmacist can be promoted as Head Pharmacist or Store Manager. He/she can also put his/her own drug store in the future.
