Nature of Work:

Statistician does a lot of mathematical works for the company. They collect and analyze numerical figures of the company’s financial status. They often work in the research and marketing department of the company. Statistician also predict future problems just by analyzing numbers that can affect success and downfall of the company

Basic Tasks:

• Analyze financial data, profits, expenditures and other financial data of the company
• Collect important information numerical or non numerical for company projects
• Predict possible problems just by analyzing numerical figures.
• Make reports that includes the findings and suggestions
• Design survey, sampling and other strategic method that can help predict future outcome
• Make research studies for marketing, political, economic, and financial growth of the organization
• Make market research and opinion research to know the consumers satisfaction

Educational and Training Requirements:

• Must be a graduate of B.S in Statistics or B.S. in Mathematics, must have taken minor in biology and economics.
• Applicants who holds multiple or doctoral degree is an advantage.
• Must have 3-5 years working experience

Skills and Training Requirements:

• Must have wide knowledge in analyzing and solving numerical problems
• Know how to predict future company’s outcome just by analyzing numerical figures
• Must have vast knowledge in research making.
• Must have knowledge in probability and sampling
• Must have above average skills and expertise in statistics
• Must have knowledge in economics, biology, politics and finance.
• Have skills in designing marketing plan and strategies.
• Must know how to design comprehensive surveys.
• Must be accurate and skills to details
• Can work under pressure and ready to work in a team

Employment Opportunities:

Marketing and Banking and Finance Companies abroad are in need of more Statisticians. In Dubai alone, even oil companies also need the expertise of Statisticians to predict possible problem on their financial stability. In US, the demand for statistician also increases because of the economic crisis that the country is suffering.

Work Environment:

Statistician has his/her own cubicle or office in the company. They are provided with high end equipments like computers that will make their work easy. Often times, they do field works especially when they conduct samplings and surveys.

Work Hours:

Statistician works for 8-10 hours a day including over time works.

Career Advancement:

Entry level statistician can be promoted as Senior Statistician. They work under Marketing or Research department. Hard driven Statistician can be promoted as Head Research Analyst or Marketing Head.
