Nature of Job:

Hotel Clerks are responsible for the inquiries of the customer in a hotel. Their duties are to accommodate guest with reservations, including handling room key and taking down requests and demands of the customers.

 

Basic Tasks:

  • Handle reservations for the customers
  • Answers inquiries about hotel services.
  • Handling room key to the customers, informing them the scope of their reservations including meal, activity and other endeavors.
  • Collect bills to departing guests
  • Informing guests the rules, perks, activity areas, restaurant and other leisure offer by the hotel.
  • Making restaurant, parking slot, activity reservations for the guests.
  • Confirming reservations for the guests.
  • Recording the occupied and available rooms in the computer files.
  • Courteously greet the guests
  • Transfer customers to the bellboys to assist them with their luggage and show them their designated rooms.

 

Educational and Training Requirements:

  • Applicants must be a graduate of BS Hotel and Restaurant Management or any related course.
  • Vocational courses in Hotel Management accredited by TESDA are also preferred.
  •  Training Certification in Hotel Service, Customer Relations and Ethics are preferred but not required.
  • 1-3 years working experience is preferred

 

Skills and Competency Requirements:

  • Knowledge in customer relations and hotel management
  • Must know the Hotel ethics and rules
  • Must know how to use the English command
  • Must know how to handle customer’s inquiries and demands.
  • Must be courteous.
  • With pleasing personality
  • Must be keen to details and can take pressure
  • Know how to communicate with different customers
  • Ability to use Computer applications

 

Employment Opportunities:

Hotel Clerk and other hotel personnel are in demand due to the increase of Hotels and Hotel Cruise ships abroad. They prefer Filipino workers more because of the proven customer service that gives more advantage to interested applicants. High compensation are offer ad expect high tips from satisfied guests. Although most hotels demand for experience hotel clerks, they still welcome fresh graduates (with intensive internship in hotel) to apply.

 

Work Environment

Work Environment of Hotel Clerks is not as stressful as other hotel jobs. Hotel Clerk’s office is usually located inside the hotel lobby, facing the hotel’s entrance. They stay on their cubicle for hours without standing, except breaks and call of nature.

 

Work Hours:

Hotel Clerk is under shifting schedules. They usually work for 8-10 hours a day depending on the demand of reservation and guest.

 

Career Advancement:

Hard working Hotel Clerks can be promoted depending on years of service and performance. They can be promoted as Head Receptionist, Training Supervisor or Head Officer in Customer Relations.
