Nature of Job:
Chemist deals with studying and discovering chemical changes or substance in different fields such as plantation, agriculture, oil, food and cosmetics just to name a few. They often formulate studies that will benefit all living organisms.
Basic Tasks:
- Study classifications, changes, origin and other factors in a chemical or substance
- Formulate new studies and discoveries on chemicals and how it will affect the people or the environment.
- Study and expound previous researches that will help the present and future studies.
- Prepare and study test solutions and compounds in laboratories.
- Study chemical substance that has good and bad affects in certain industries like agriculture, pharmaceutical, oil and food industries.
- Work on a team of chemical engineers and scientists to formulate new studies.
- Prepare test on certain chemicals.
- Make and compute formulas.
- Encoding and keeping the confidentiality of studied chemicals.
Educational and Training Requirements:
- Must hold a diploma in Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering and must hold an authentic license
- A Masteral or PhD holder is a plus.
- Must have 3-5 years experience as a chemist.
Skills and Competency Requirements:
- Must have wide knowledge ad expertise in chemistry.
- Must know all varieties of chemicals, and can detect the good and destructive ones.
- Must have in depth background studies and researches in chemistry.
- Knowledge in chemical substance in different fields such as agriculture, pharmaceutical, foods and oil and plastic industry.
- Knowledge in mathematics, physics and chemistry.
- Can do in depth researches.
- Must be keen and accurate on details.
- Can work on a dynamic team and can work long hours.
- Can meet deadlines.

Working Environment:
Chemists are often exposed to mild and strong chemicals that often produce eye, skin reactions and appalling smell. They are provided with safety suits and masks to avoid chemical contamination. They often spend their working hours in a laboratory but from time to time they also do outside work.
Working Hours:
Chemist works for long hours especially when they are studying new discoveries. They often work for 8-10 hours a day.
Career Advancement:
Chemists who possess good performance can be promoted as Senior or Head Chemist in school or industry companies.
