Nature of Job:

Radiologists are the one responsible in assessing the human body through X-Rays and Ultrasounds. They are the one who conducts x-ray examinations and passed the results to the physicians.

Basic Tasks:

• Examining patient’s condition through the use of X-rays, ultrasounds and other testing devices.
• Reading results from x-ray films, jotting down observed and detected damages that will further assess by the attending physician
• Examining internal structures and condition of the organs.
• Administers radiopaque treatment by injecting it orally.
• Making an assessment based on the results on the examinations
• Asking the patient’s about his/her condition before proceeding to the examination. Explaining the process and assure its safety to reduce the tension of the patient
• Maintain and keep the results finding of patients and secure its confidentiality.
• Transferring the results to the physicians who will give further assessment to the patient.

Education and Training Requirements:

• Must be a graduate of Bachelor in Radiology and hold an authentic license.
• A multiple certificates in radiology is highly preferred but not required.
• Must have at least 3-5 years as radiologist in private or public hospitals.

Skills and Competency Requirements:

• Must have above average knowledge and expertise in radiology that is why experience is a must.
• Knowledge in using x-ray, citi scan, ultrasounds and other medical equipments use in assessing medical condition.
• Must be keen and accurate in assessing and examining patient’s condition.
• Must know how to use and understand medical terminologies.
• Must have experience handling different minor and serious medical cases.
• Know how to communicate with customers, how to convince and calm them when anxiety strikes.
• Know some clerical works such as keeping important documents and records.

Employment Opportunities:

Like other medical related jobs, Radiologists are also in demand abroad. However, employers abroad preferred experienced radiologist. The demands for Radiologist are high however, since the number of Radiologist are fewer than nurses or doctors, employers can only accommodate 5-10 radiologist per hospitals.

Work Environment:

Radiologists have their own special facility inside the hospital complete with small and big high end equipments since their main job is to examine internal organ condition of patients. Like any other medical practitioner, there are times that they face pressure because of the demand and number of patients.

Work Hours:

Radiologist works for 8-10 hours a day. They work overtime depending on the loads of work and demand of clients.

Career Advancement:

The promotion for Radiologist is based from the experience and expertise. Those who further studies have more chance of promotions. Deserving Radiologists are promoted as Chief Radiologist or Department Head.
