Nature of job:
Elevator Installers and Repairers are responsible in installing elevators in high rise buildings and repair damages and malfunctions. They are usually on call at all times whenever problem occurs like elevator shut down.
Basic Tasks:
- Install elevators using construction and safety equipments.
- Repair malfunctioned elevators
- Communicate with engineers regarding the area where the elevators will be installed. (Because most elevators are installed during construction)
- Communicate with clients regarding the kind or type of elevators will be installed.
- Replace old to new and modern elevators.
- Assuring the functions of buttons and the status of cable wires and other functions connected in the elevator.
- Keeping documents regarding the elevator installed such as receipts, warranty and other important papers.
- Make monthly inspection on the elevators.
Educational and Training Requirements:
- Graduate of vocational course in elevator installation or any related field
- High School graduates are also welcome to apply but must have training and working experience in elevator installation and repair.
- Must have at least 2-3 years working experience.
Skills and Competency Requirements:
- Must have knowledge and skills in elevator installation.
- Knowledge in elevator parts.
- Must have the ability to repair all kinds, minor or major elevator dysfunctions.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Can communicate well clients or engineer regarding the area where elevators will install.
- Ms have strong built to carry heavy equipments.
- Must have no fear of heights.
Employment Opportunities:
Skilled workers are very in demand abroad, these comprise all jobs in construction, installation and engineering that includes elevator installers and repairers. They do not require college holders, as long as the applicant has wide experience and expertise in elevator installation.
Work Environment:
Elevator Installers often install elevators during construction of the building. They are provided with safety ropes, attached in their safety outfit whenever they install elevators to avoid falling down.
Working Hours:
The working hours for Elevator Installer and Repairer may vary depending on the elevator to be installed or how bad is the damage/status of the elevator. They often work for 6-8 hours or even longer.
Career Advancement:
Elevator Installers and Repairers may have slow process of promotion. However, highly skilled and well experienced Installer/Repairer may be promoted as Supervisor or Officer in Charge.
