Job Description of Telephone Operator

Jobs for Telephone Operator

Nature of Job:

Telephone Operators are responsible in sending and receiving telephone calls from clients or customers that ask information or inquire signal failures. Most Telephone Operators work in telephone companies and other business organization that caters services such as Hotels, Restaurants, Insurance, etc.

 

Basic Tasks:

  • Call and receive call from customers.
  • Courteously greet the customer and give them the best customer service needed.
  • Give customer’s assistance by answering their inquiries and other concerns.
  • Transfer calls from to designated area or department.
  • Encode and forward customer’s concerns to authorized personnel that will further assist the concern of the customer.
  • Inform customers with their billing information, unpaid bills and other important concerns.

 

Education and Training Requirements:

  • A graduate of any four-year course or 2 year vocational course.
  • Must have at least 1 year experience as telephone operator.

 

Skills and Competency Requirements:

  • Must have a strong command in English language, both oral and written.
  • Knowledge and ability to give best customer service.
  • Must have experience in giving customer service
  • Knowledge in analyzing problem
  • Must be keen and attentive to details.
  • Can communicate well to different kinds of customers.
  • Knowledge in telephone and computer applications.

 

Employment Opportunities:

BPO or Business Processing Operations is very in demand locally because of the increasing number of Business Provider Company in the country that gives competitive salary. A lot of business centers are also hiring telephone Operators especially those which caters services. Internationally, Telephone Operators are highly accepted in countries in Middle East, Singapore and other countries that do not speak English fluently.

 

Work Environment:

Telephone Operators workplace is convenient and pleasant compare to other jobs. They are provided with clean facility complete with computer and telephone equipments. However, stress has been part of their job since they have to receive calls and often communicate with different type of customers.

 

Work Hours:

Telephone Operators often work in shifting schedules especially in Telecommunication Companies. They work for 8-10 hours a day including overtime.

 

Career Advancement:

Promising Telephone Operator with good service record and experienced may be promoted as Teal Leader or Training Supervisor.
