Nature of Work:

Governess is the head of the household activities in a house, hotels and mansions. They also serve as the assistant of their superior when it comes to planning and implementing orders to other household employees.

Basic Tasks:

• Implement orders to other household/hotel employees like nannies, maids, cooks, gardeners and maintenance employees.
• Prepare the daily activity of the superior.
• Help superior’s children with their homework and other lessons
• Prepare important documents to the superior.
• Look after the Superior’s family in occasions, party or shopping and other activities.
• Guide the superior with his/her plans or demands.
• Communicate with other employees regarding party activity or formal gathering.
• Guide other employee with their tasks.
• Maintaining the cleanliness and function in hotels and mansions.
• Train new employees.

Educational and Training Requirements:

• Must be a graduate of at least 2 year vocational course or hold a bachelor degree in any course.
• Must have experience in hotel preferably as a Governess or supervisor
• Must have at least experience as a House’s Governess

Skills and Competency Requirements:

• Must have the knowledge and ability to run all household chores.
• Must have the passion in caring others.
• Must have experience working in a mansion or hotel
• Must have basic knowledge in English, Math and special skills in music and other extra curricular activities.
• Must have knowledge in all household chores
• Must have god communication skills

Employment Opportunities:

Plenty of Governess position is available in the Middle East. However, they require a college degree applicant because one of the tasks of Governess is to give tutorial lesson. Compared to other household workers, Governess receives a high salary including other benefits.

Work Environment:

The entire house or hotel serves as the office of a Governess mainly because she’s the one responsible in assuring that all household tasks and orders are being implemented. Governess often do multi tasking, aside from the household chores, she also assigned to watch out for the kids of her superior. Governess’ job is quite stressful especially for starters but as long as you have the passion in caring for others; all things will run out well.

Working Hours:

Hotel Governess works for 8-10 hours a day. House Governess work starts at 6 am until 10-11 pm or longer.

Career Advancement:

There is no specific promotion for house Governess since it’s the highest position in the household employment. On the other hand, Hotel Governess can be promoted as Hotel Manager in long run.
