Job Description of Gauger

Jobs for Gauger

Nature of Job:

Gaugers work in an oil refinery or oil shore rigs. They are responsible in monitoring the flow of oil in fuel tanks. Part of their job is to encode the amount of fuels and do reports of malfunctions, damages, leakages and defective valves.

 

Basic Tasks:

  • To gauge and measure the oil flow and density.
  • To monitor and secure the flow of oils in fuel tanks.
  • Calculates test result using different formulas.
  • Regulate the oil flow into the pipelines, tanks, refinery, marine and train terminals.
  • Starts pumps and open valves to regulate the flow of oils in tanks.
  • Read pressures and calculations of oil flows.

 

Educational Background:

  • A four-year Engineering Graduate major in Chemical, Mechanical or Civil. Must hold an authorize license.
  • Entry level applicants should have an on-the-job training in an oil refinery station or related oil running company.
  • Other applicants must have 3-5 years working experience.

 

Skills and Competency Requirements:

  • Must have experience in the oil refinery or any related field.
  • Must have knowledge in oil industry.
  • Have knowledge and skills in regulating oil flow in pipelines, tanks and refinery.
  • Must know how to read pressures and know different formulas used in calculating oil amounts.
  • Must know how o operate different oil equipments.
  • Accurate and keen to details.
  • Knowledge in Basic Mathematics is required.

 

Employment Opportunity:

Oil companies arise not only in the Middle East, USA and Australia doubled their demand for oil workers. Gaugers are widely needed abroad; a competitive salary and benefits are offered. But offer varies depending on the experience and knowledge of the applicant.

 

Work Environment:

Gaugers often worked under land surface. The working environment of gaugers is hot and quite dangerous. To secure the safety of gaugers, companies provide them with safety clothes and accessories.

 

Work Hours:

Gaugers often work overtime, their minimum working time is 8 hours but it often exceeds to 10 hours because of heavy works.

 

Career Advancement:

Gaugers need to have years of experience before getting a promotion. In oil industry, seniority is important. However, hard working gauger can be promoted as Senior Gauger or Maintenance officer.
