There is a demand for English teachers in South Korea and they may soon hire overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
The possibility of Filipino teachers entering into the Korean market was the result of the recent meeting of Luiz Cruz, Philippine Ambassador to South Korea and Commissioner Choo Kyu-ho of the Korea Immigration Office.
The prospect of OFWs to be deployed as English teachers in Korea was discussed by the two officials in the said meeting.
As of this writing, only “native” English-speakers from countries such as America and Canada are allowed to teach English in South Korea. Nonetheless the Immigration Commissioner informed that their country is “considering extending the scope” of the law.
This is because the public school in South Korea is in need of more English teachers. South Korea is hoping that highly qualified Filipino workers would help their country meet the demand.
